mood sequence

Mood Sequence is a commission by Christian Wijnants. The multichannel video installation at Hunting and Collecting in Brussels invites you to an intimate journey into the world of the Antwerp-based designer. In a stream of consciousness, the various sources of inspiration are a guideline through the creative process and also the major influences in his work. A precise selecting from an extensive archive of mood imagery, collection photography and show footage blends together in an ever evolving composition of mixed images.

A temporary artistic intervention by pelican studio in the window of concept store PARK in Vienna. The associations with traditions in Christmas decoration and coloured stained glass are used to create a kaleidoscopic labyrinth that refers to earlier works with textile curtains. The idea of the impossible drape decor is taken to a new level, ceremonial and bling bling at the same time, a dialogue about seduction and consumerism on PARK’s minimal store front. During the opening event Pamelia Kurstin’s theremin play took care of the appropriate unearthly soundtrack.

Modular chrome tubes were the main elements for the scenery of the Ashland presentation during Paris fashion week. Dancers interacted with the polished set-up, a scenery that is inspired by an over-equipped beach setting, health and wellness centers, the elements of a self-content bourgeoisie. The changing cabin made from string curtains, the useless fitness constructions and sun loungers were almost left unused. There were some slow efforts to exercise but finally the tension of boredom yields to enjoyment of the heat, the isolation and complacency.

The setting has its origin in “Evil under the Sun” – a programme of events, curated by Lucy Mc Kenzie and Milovan Farronato for the Fiorucci Art Trust on Stromboli. pelican avenue designed a changing room for the black sandy beaches of the volcanic island.

For the Paris showroom, pelican studio designed 2 clothing racks in addition to the presentation setup. Working with the same modular chrome tube system, using it for its original function, but rethinking their generic appliances and forms.

Artwork and prints for the pelican avenue AW13 collection. Somewhere set in unknown territory, south of Vegas, the collection envisions ideas of light. Neon, light beams and reflections on metal, gold and silver, shape arches and create an overall enlightened architectural structure.

WHY CHANGE AT ALL, A HANDFUL OF DOLLARS CAN BRING RELIEF ON YOUR WAY HOME. IT IS ALL BUT A DREAM, SO BETTER BE PREPARED. WE ARE NOT GOING TO WAIT ANY LONGER, JOHN. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.
